The Musclemania® Physique Division was added to the Musclemania® World Tour in the 2013 season.
The Physique division is for men who want to display their upper bodies in a classic, symmetry, beach body form. Competitors wear tradition knee high board shorts while presenting themselves on stage in both individual walk and class line-ups. They will be judged based equally upon their Physical Upper Body Symmetry, Size, Muscle Condition and Presentation.
Beginning in 2016 , the new Musclemania® Women’s Physique Division joins the Musclemania® World Tour and will also be added to the 2016 Musclemania Australia Championships. This new division is for women who want to display their bodies in a classic, symmetry, beach body form. Competitors wear a 2-piece swimsuit while presenting themselves on stage in both individual walk and class line-ups and women will perform 5 mandatory poses. They will be judged based equally upon their Physical Body Symmetry, Size, Muscle Condition and Presentation.
Competitors may participate in more than one Division in Physique™ Australia subject to additional division entry fee and any age or limiting conditions.
• Open Women Division – NEW IN 2016
• Junior Men Division (22 Years of Age and Under)
• Novice Men Division (Any Age)
• Open Men Division (Any Age)
*ALL division may be further divided into either a height or weigh class after the Official Registration and final numbers are known.
Any natural athlete is welcome to compete in Musclemania® events regardless of competitive experience. Beginners, novices or veterans can compete in any regional, national and/or international events. But only Beginners and Novices can compete in designated shows. Veteran competitors may compete regardless of past or current bodybuilding federation affiliations.
JUDGING AND PERFORMANCES
Contestants will walk individually to the center of the stage in bare feet, do two half turns, posture and pose and then walk off to the opposite side of the stage. Then, all competitors in each class will return as a group for quarter turns and comparisons as requested by the judges. Stage presence is an essential part of the judging consideration. Competitor body condition should be lean and muscular but not striated and dehydrated.
All contestants will be equally and fairly judged within their division and classes. This will include (1) an individual ‘T’ or Spotlight Walk on stage and (2) in group line-up for quarter turns and mandatory & freestyle posing. Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.
Musclemania Physique judging criteria is based upon four, equally scored categories:
- Symmetry 30%;
- Muscle Mass 30%;
- Condition 30%;
- Posing Presentation 10%
Men’s Board shorts should be standard knee high, loose fitting style as available in any men’s clothing store. Designs must be standard as for sale with the length no lower than 2″ above the knees. Any patterns, colors and styles are acceptable but no commercial branding/logos or advertising can be displayed.
Women’s two piece swimsuit may have high, side cuts and extremely thin straps to extenuate competitor body lines. However, no thong or ‘T’ cuts are permitted. This is distinctly different from the more standard swimsuit designs as required in both the Ms. Bikini and Fitness Model competitions. Sample competitor images are presented for reference. No Heels are to be worn in the Womens Physique Rounds.

MEDIA & PUBLICITY
International magazine, newspaper and television media always attend Musclemania® events and contestants are encouraged to take advantage of the national and international publicity. While the promoters cannot promise that every contestant will be selected by the attending media, it is recommended that they bring additional sports apparel, posing trunks and other items appropriate for media photo, video and television sessions. Come compete for promotion and present yourself in a marketable manner throughout the weekend as media representatives select models both on and off the contest stage. For more information, see Media.
DRUG TESTING CRITERIA
Because the Musclemania Championships are natural bodybuilding events, at least 10 competitors among the Top 5 Finalists must be drug tested by urinalysis immediately following their performance at the Finals. If a contestant is tested positive for any of the listed substances, he/she will be disqualified from the competition, forfeit any prizes and/or rewards and be unable to compete in any Musclemania event worldwide for at least 2 years. Also, if a contestant refuses to submit to drug testing or attempts to manipulate and/or alter a urinalysis sample, then he/she will be immediately disqualified from the competition.
